This season, Matthew appears with Garsington Opera as Giuseppe (La Traviata), Eurimaco Cover (Il Ritorno d’Ulisse) and Waiter 1, Tierhandler cover (Der Rosenkavalier). Then he appears at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival at Buxton Opera House as Richard Dauntless (Ruddigore).
Matthew was an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington Opera, where he sang Major Domo cover (Queen of Spades), as well as a young artist on the Glyndebourne Academy Scheme, Le Foyer des Artistes and Academia dell’Opera Italiana. As part of the International G&S festival he has appeared as Marco (The Gondoliers) & Nanki-Pooh (The Mikado).
With the Royal Academy Opera he sang Monostatos, Erster Geharnischter & Zweiter Priester (Die Zauberflöte) and appeared in scenes as Nemorino (l’Elisir d’amore), Grimoaldo (Rodelinda), Gerald (Lakmé), Graf Albert (Die Tote Stadt), Don Curzio (Figaro) and Inkslinger (Paul Bunyan).
Matthew enjoys a busy oratorio schedule which recently has included Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem & C Minor Mass, Bach’s St John Passion (Evangelist) & Magnificat, Haydn’s Creation, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus & Messiah.
Matthew is currently based in London where he studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Richard Berkeley-Steele. Prior to his study in London, Matthew graduated with a first-class degree in French, Italian and Business from the University of Kent with a year spent at the Université de Neuchatel in Switzerland.
